Maoists trigger landmine blast in Andhra Pradesh

The Maoists today triggered a landmine blast near Jakkam village in the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Border (AOB) region, police said.

The ultras also engaged in an exchange of fire with a special party team of theVisakhapatnam District Police, said Visakhapatnam Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma.

A group of 10 ultras triggered a landmine blast this morning when they noticed a special party team that was combing the area, he said.

The Naxals fired upon the police personnel, who retaliatedand after a brief exchange of fire the Maoists fled into the forest, the officer said.

However no causalities were reported, police said, adding combing operations have been intensified in the area.
