A group of armed ultras struck at the house of Daya Khila at village Sanadural under Mudulipada police station late last night and took him away at gun point, Inspector In-Charge Rajesh Kumar Chettri said.

Daya was taken to nearby forest by the abductors who claimed he would be produced before a rebel court, he said.

Daya, who was earlier working as a Maoist, had quit the naxal outfit about a year ago, police said.

The former rebel was abducted apparently after the Maoists came to know that he was extorting money from contractors, businessmen and traders in the region using their name, they said.
