The second unit of Madras Atomic Power Station, which was shut down in April last after a generator transformer failure, has resumed operation, a senior official said today.
"The Unit 2 of Madras Atomic Power Station in Kalpakkam was synchronised to the grid at 11.39 AM on September 29," MAPS Station Director T J Kotteeswaran said in a statement.
The unit was shut down from April 15, 2013 following the failure of the generator transformer.

"A new generator transformer was procured from a private firm at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore and is installed and commissioned," he said.
The second unit was generating 110 MWe and power would be raised gradually, he said, adding that the first unit was presently operating at 170 MWe.
