A faction of the Maratha community Tuesday opposed the "politicisation" of its social movement for the cause of reservation and warned of taking strong steps against such efforts.
The Marathas have been demanding reservation under the OBC category in government jobs and education.
Abasaheb Patil, who had held a sit-in protest in Parli town in Beed district a couple of months back, Tuesday said that no political front would be allowed to be formed using the name 'Maratha Kranti Morcha'.
"We are against any such move to set up a political party with name 'Maratha Kranti Morcha'. The so-called Suresh Patil, who plans to do so, has no support of the Maratha community," he said.
He was speaking to reporters here over several issues related to various demands of the Maratha community.
"We will hold a meeting at Tuljapur town in Osmanabad district soon. We will decide the future course of action. The police complaints filed against several Maratha youth during the violent agitation of August have not been withdrawn yet. The state should focus on it as well," he said.
