Former Solicitor General of India Harish Salve will represent the Maharashtra government in the Bombay High Court which is hearing petitions against the decision to give 16 per cent reservation to the Marathas.
Revenue minister Chandrakant Patil told reporters Wednesday that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, chief secretary D K Jain and he met Salve here earlier in the day.
"After a detailed discussion, he agreed to represent the state government in the Bombay High Court," Patil said.
The Maharashtra legislature last month passed a bill providing reservation in government jobs and education to the Maratha community following a long-standing demand.
