Marathi to get Classical Language status soon

The Centre is expediting the process to declare Marathi a Classical Language, Maharashtra Minister for Culture and Marathi language, Vinod Tawde today said.

He also said that the Centre has assured the state that the process of declaring Marathi a Classical Language before February 27 is being expedited.

A chair for Marathi language would also come up at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, he said at a press conference.

"The Marathi Chair in the Jawaharlal Nehru University would be opened up before February 27, which is celebrated as Marathi Language Day.

"Prior to this date, the Marathi Language will definitely acquire a Classical Language status, as efforts to expedite the same have been assured by the Centre," he said.
