Marathi writer Madhavi passes away

Noted Marathi writer Madhavi Desai died at a private hospital here today after a brief illness, family sources said.

She was 80. She is survived by three married daughters.

Madhavi, daughter of noted Marathi film producer, director of yesteryear and Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Bhalji Pendharkar, had penned more than 35 books, novels, small stories, poems and travelogues.

Her book 'Naachaga Ghuma' had created a sensation in Marathi literary world. Two more books written by her are on the print table.

She was a recipient of many awards including the prestigious Kusumagraj and Damini Literary awards. She spent most part of her life in Goa.
 

Her cremation will take place on Tuesday morning here, her writer daughter Meera Tarale said.
