Marathon held to mark International Day of Persons with

Over 550 differently-abled persons participated in a marathon walk today at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The event organised by a Delhi-based NGO in partnership with National Trust and Special Olympics Bharat, aimed at generating awareness about the needs and rights of people with disability including intellectual disability.

"The event had over 600 mainstream participants along with over 550 differently able participants in running/walking categories. The five categories were, 3 km (14 years and above), 5 km (Run and Walkathon for 8-year-old and above), 10 km (18 years and above) and 21 km," a release by NGO Muskaan said.
 

Shanti Auluck, founder of the NGO, said the main aim of the marathon was to promote healthy living, inspire equal acceptance for all in the society including recognition of the rights of people with disability.
