Scientists and academicians of Bengal today took part in the 'March for Science' rally here to promote scientific temper among people.
The rally, which was taken out from Ramlila Maidan to Esplanade, also demanded allocation of at least 3 per cent of GDP to scientific and technological research and 10 per cent towards education among other issues, a statement of the organisers said.
The Kolkata Organizing committee and an NGO, Breakthrough Science Society, were behind the city-leg of the rally.
The second edition of the 'March for Science' rally was taken out in several other cities in the country during the day.
Prof Soumitra Banerjee of IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research), Kolkata, Prof Naba Kumar Mandal eminent physicist were among those having taken part in the rally.
"The March for Science champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity," a statement from the organisers said.
