The mercury registered a marginal fall in temperature in Odhisha though heat wave like conditions persisted in western part of the state today.
The mercury hovered above 40 degree Celsius in at least nine places in the region and Malkangiri turned out to be the hottest place in the state with 42.4 degree C.
Bhawanipatna recorded a maximum temperature of 41.5 degree C followed by 41.2 degree C in Talcher and 41 degree C in Titlagarh and Balangir, the Met office said.

In Sambalpur, the temperature was 40.3 degree Celsius and in Jharsuguda it was 40.1 degree C, the Met office said.
Thundersquall accompanied by clouds and gusty surface wind acted as a coolant in several areas.
The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 37.5 degree C, while the mercury stood at 36.8 degree C at the neighbouring Cuttack city, the Met office said.
