Engineering mark-sheets bearing fake seals and signatures of a state-run university were found to be trading in Kolkata, police said today.

Mark-sheets of B.Ed with fake seals and signatures of Jodhpur-based Jai Narayan Vyas University were found by a student in Kolkata under an RTI inquiry, they said.

After having a couple of such mark sheets received by the recipients under RTI inquiry for verification, the university administration has filed a complaint after the alleged racket came into the light, police said.

A student from Kolkata had sent his mark sheet to us for verification under RTI and sought to know if this mark sheet had been issued by us, Govind Singh Charan, Registrar of the university said.

"This mark sheet bore the fake seal of the university as some letters were unmatched with those of the original seal," he said.

Charan said that the mark sheet also had the initials of the Examination Controller and Registrar (II).

"We do not have the signatures of the exam controller on the mark sheets and there was no post of Registrar (II) here.

"We received a couple of more such mark sheets of B.Ed having seals of some affiliate colleges and considering the matter to be serious, we immediately registered an FIR with the police, so that the racket behind the fake mark sheets could be busted and the youth falling prey to this racket could be saved," he said.

A police official said that all these mark sheets have found to be issued in Kolkata only.

"We will interrogate the students who received these mark sheets and with their help, will try to find the racketeers behind it and the number of mark sheets given by them," said the official.
