Markets today remained closed in the district in protest against gangrape of a five-year-old girl at Kalyan circle near Railway station.

The strike was called by Laado Bachao Sangharsh Samiti and other organisations where people demanded justice for the girl, who is being treated at a hospital in Jaipur, said a representative.

Various social organisations took out a rally and demonstration in the city. They handed over a representation addressed to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to a district administration official, he said.

The organisations demanded stern action against the policemen and doctors for alleged negligence on their part in dealing the case, the representative added.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when the victim was sleeping with her mother and siblings on roadside. The accused took her away to an isolated place where she was allegedly raped by two persons.

The following morning, when girl's mother, who sells glassware, could not find her, she alerted other people sleeping on the pavement, police said.

The wounded girl was later found in a heap of garbage.

On the complaint of girl's mother, two suspected men - Ram Singh and Babulal - were rounded up by police.
