Ten persons, belonging to two families, marooned following heavy rains near Palani in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district, were today rescued by an Air Force helicopter and National Disaster Response Force personnel.

Since the State Fire and Rescue personnel could not reach out to them following heavy rains in the area, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam ordered to seek the assistance of the IAF and NDRF personnel, an official release said.

The 40 NDRF personnel from Arakkonam and the IAF helicopter from Sulur near Coimbatore reached the spot at 2.20 pm and rescued all the 10 persons, including a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy around 3.45 pm, it said.

The rescued were later taken to Government Hospital at Palani, where they are being treated.

Palani and Kodaikanal areas in the region recorded 202 mm of rain, the highest in the state, on October 20.
