A 22-year-old married woman was abducted and murdered, allegedly by four unidentified persons on the outskirts of Govindaram village, around 80 kms away from here, police said today.

The woman was being taken home by her father yesterday on a motorcycle from her in-law's residence in Mothukurao pet village, Korutala Circle Inspector Raja Sekhara Raju said.

When the duo reached outskirts of the Govindaram village, four persons, who were chasing them abducted the woman, the officer said.

"The accused tried to rape her and as she tried to escape, they strangulated and murdered her," Raju said.

Her body was found this morning, the officer said, adding a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and efforts are on to nab the accused, the officer added.
