A 33-year-old married woman was allegedly raped and then threatened with dire consequences in the district here following which six persons were arrested today, police said.

"The action has been taken based on a complaint lodged by the woman and her husband in Dharsinwa village of Raipur," Dharsinwa Station House Officer L M Khan told PTI.

According to the woman, she had a quarrel with her husband on the night of April 30 after which she left the home in a fit of anger along with her five-year-old daughter. The duo took shelter at a nearby temple in the area.

On finding her alone, one of the accused Zakir Khan (30) approached the woman and forcibly took her to a secluded place where he allegedly raped her, Khan said quoting the victim's statement.

After the incident, the woman rushed to her house and narrated the incident to her husband.

Zakir, along with his friends Suraj Dheewar (32), Sumit Gaikwad (30), Lallu Satnami (31), Raju Katra (32), and Kishan Kaushik (30) also followed the woman to her home.

All of them threatened the couple with dire consequences if they report the incident to police, he said.

However, the couple reached the police station last night and lodged the complaint in this connection, Khan said.

Zakir and his friends were arrested today and booked under relevant IPC sections, he said adding that further probe was on.
