A martyrs memorial would be set up in Ambala Cantonment at a cost of Rs 173 crore, Haryana's Health and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij said here today.
The directions have been issued and the construction work to build the museum will start within two weeks, Vij said.
"The memorial will not only help commemorate and recognize the sacrifices made by the martyrs during the freedom struggle but would also place Ambala Cantt on the world map," the minister said.
The museum, which will be constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD), Vij said is one project he was pursuing from the time he was an MLA in opposition.
"I have been pursuing this project since long but it is the present government which has has paved the way for it.
"For the construction of this memorial, 22 acres of land has been provided by the Municipal Corporation, Ambala, to the Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department along with Rs 173 crore for its construction," he added.

Describing the memorial, Vij said there would be six lawns bearing descriptions of the 1857 revolution warriors and the history of Ambala.
"There would also be a museum for the 1857 warriors from Haryana. It will be a centre of attraction for people from around the world," Vij, who is also BJP 's MLA from Ambala cantt, said.
He added that provisions for laser show facility on the life and incidents of warriors of the 1857 revolution would also be made.
