Marvel eyes Joe Robert Cole for 'Black Panther' film

Marvel is is set to sign a deal with "American Crime Story" writer Joe Robert Cole to bring Black Panther to the big screen.

Cole has emerged as Marvel Studios' top choice to script "Black Panther" and is nearing a contractual agreement, reported The Wrap.

Cole was previously linked to 2019's "Inhumans" movie, although his draft won't ultimately be used.

The writer is currently working on FX's OJ Simpson trial series "American Crime Story", and previously penned 2011 horror movie "Amber Lake".

Marvel Studios is currently searching for a Black Panther director, with Selma's Ava DuVernay having turned down the project.

Chadwick Boseman will portray the title hero, with Andy Serkis expected to reprise his "Avengers: Age of Ultron" villain Ulysses Klaw.

Black Panther bows on July 6, 2018, following Boseman's introduction in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War".
