An attempt by a masked man to loot cash from an ATM of the State Bank of Travancore in this district failed as he could not open the cash chest, police said today.
He, however, succeeded in damaging the machine, located at Kalakadu, to a great extent, police said.
Cash to the tune of Rs 20 lakh was intact.

There were no security personnel at the ATM and the man had tried to break the machine at 3 AM when it was raining heavily, after disconnecting the power supply, police said.
He had remained in the ATM booth for 25 minutes but did not succeed.
According to CCTV footage, he was seen trying to break the machine.
Forensic experts have recorded the fingerprints, police said, attempts were made earlier to rob the ATM in January 2011 and September 2015.
