In a daring act, a group of armed persons, wearing masks, entered a sub-jail in Sanchore town in Rajasthan's Jalore district this evening, opened fire and freed three undertrials, police said.

A prison guard received bullet wounds and was rushed to a a nearby hospital, SHO Bhanwar Lal Sirvi said.

Five to seven masked men entered the sub-jail at around 1820 hrs and asked the guard to hand over keys of one of the gates to them, he said.

They opened fire and freed the three undertrials who were to appear in a court tomorrow, the SHO said.

Taking advantage of the darkness, they along with the undertrials, facing charges of abduction and murder, fled in vehicles parked near the jail.

Police had sealed all exit routes and launched a hunt to nab them, the SHO said.

SP (Jalore) Anil Tak said the masked men escaped with the undertrials.

"We have alerted the neighbouring districts. We have also sealed the Rajasthan-Gujarat border," he said.
