According to police, in 2006, Maschendar had fraudulently got Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) question papers and had convinced 11 candidates, who got jobs and were now working in various places, to write the exams.
Similarly, this year Maschendar lured Rajasekhar by giving Rs 50,000 per exam day, who in turn took out a question paper after commencement of examination and gave to Maschendar and his cousin Mahender, also a railway employee.
"The duo took photographs of the papers and sent to gang members through mobile messaging service 'WhatsApp'," police said.
"About 40 more people, including Mahender and some more candidates, are yet to be arrested," police said adding it was clearly established that RRC examination papers were being leaked out with the involvement of railway officers in all ranks for getting jobs to their friends and relatives.
The mass copying using electronic devices was detected in the last phase of the exam on November 30, when police raided an area in Salarjung, from where the gang was operating.
Electronic devices with in-built SIM cards, laptops, printer, ear-pins like bluetooth, cellphones, data cards and cables, besides 17 bikes were recovered from the accused.
A total of 3,91,018 candidates appeared for the exam held at 182 centres in six cities under SCR Zone - Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati and Nanded.
