Mass meditation held along Ganga heralding arrival of spring

A spiritual organisation today held collective meditation along the banks of the Ganga river here to usher in the spring season.

Highlighting the significance of group meditation along the shores of the river, Gayatri Parivar chief Shaila Jiji said the "practise is ancient and highly effective in invoking the divine in times of crises."

The organisation with global presence has decided to observe the year 2014 as 'Samooh Sadhna Varsha' (collective meditation year) by holding similar spiritual programmes at different places.

The aim of meditation sessions is to invoke the divine spirit for the welfare of peoples the world over, especially in Uttarakhand that was hit by a colossal calamity last year, she said.
 

The holy city of Haridwar wore a festive look with fairs and cultural programmes organised at different educational and religious institutions, welcoming the arrival of the spring season that symbolises rejuvenation.
