Young visitors at Sharjah Children's Reading Festival had the opportunity to meet one of India's most loved chefs and media personalities, Pankaj Bhadouria, at the 'Cookery Corner'.

A self-made culinary professional and one of the most prominent faces in the Indian food industry, Pankaj is well- known for her devotion to the culinary arts; a passion that made her quit a 16-year career in teaching and won her the first MasterChef India title in 2010.

With butter, flour, cocoa powder and tonnes of chocolate chips, a bunch of bright-eyed kids circled around the chef and were more than ready to make their two-minute chocolate desserts.

"Healthy eating is as much about the ingredients as it is about the style of cooking and one's overall dietary discipline. Getting your three meals a day on time is crucial, especially for young children, who need a steady source of nutrition for good growth and vitality," Pankaj remarked, while assisting young chefs in their brownie-making exercise.

"Indian recipes enjoy the benefits of fresh ingredients, a variety of flavours, simple cooking methods and an abundance of seasonal herbs and spices, that help people make healthy choices on a daily basis without having to compromise on time or ease. It is some of these easy tips and tricks I am sharing with the young visitors at this festival," she added.

Bhadouria has authored several cookbooks, including, "Chicken from My Kitchen" inspired by her family of chicken- lovers, which makes her only MasterChef winner worldwide to have an official MasterChef cookbook.

Pankaj has hosted many TV shows and is the face of well- known food brands in India and abroad.
