Eight hundred cartons of foreign liquor were seized from a truck near Madhuvan village here today and its driver and cleaner arrested in a joint operation by the police and the excise department, the police said.
On the basis of inputs received from a reliable source, a team of police attached to Farah police station and the district excise department seized the liquor consignment from a truck in Madhuvan village on National Highway 2, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Babloo Kumar said.
The cost of the liquor is estimated to be more than 55 lakh, he added.
During interrogation, the arrested duo told the police the consignment was picked up from Chandigarh and was to be delivered to a team of the suppliers, Gurmeet Singh and Rinku, in Arunachal Pradesh.
Kumar said the police are determined to bust the racket operating out of Chandigarh.
