Mauritius expect 20 pc growth in Indian tourists' arrival

Mauritius is expecting 20 per cent growth in arrivals of Indian tourists in 2017 as the island nation today kicked off a five-city road show to attract tourists.

Mauritius saw Indian tourists' arrivals of 83,000 in 2016 which was 15 per cent more than arrivals in previous year, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) India, Country Manager, Vivek Anand said here.

"We are targeting 1,00,000 tourists in 2017 which is an increase of 20 per cent over arrivals in 2016," he said.

Tourists from Europe accounts for 50 per cent, followed by Asian countries 20 per cent of total tourists' arrival to Mauritius, he said. "India's share in Mauritius tourist arrivals is 7 per cent, which has been growing steadily," Anand said.
 

"We will be promoting Mauritius as destination beyond the beach. More and more travellers are planning to travel to Mauritius, an affordable luxury destination.

"We are getting enquiries from a few Indian weddings. Producers are also showing interest in shooting Bollywood movies in Mauritius," he said.

He said the main objective of the road show here is to update the travel fraternity and help them forge business ties with Mauritius suppliers.

"The road show will also be conducted in Pune, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Kolkata during February 27 till March 4.

To a query, Anand said 50 per cent of Indian tourists coming to Mauritius are from western part, followed by 25 per cent from northern and 25 per cent from Southern India.

Besides for wedding, and other activities, Mauritius has also become famous for Golf. Travellers can enjoy a game of Golf at one of the many championship level courses as Mauritius has established itself as an

internationally-recognised golf destination over the past decade, said Anand.

Maurutius, lies about 2,000 km southeast of African coast and to the east of Madagascar, offers activities like sky diving, ziplining, seakarting, submarine rides for adventure lovers, he said.

Covering an area of 1,865 square km of which 330 km is coastline, Mauritius offers visa on arrivals for Indian nationals for a maximum of 60 days.
