On arrival at the temple, Purryag was given traditional reception by the temple management.

After offering his obeisance to the Lord, they were presented with a sacred silk cloth, prasadams and holy water by K Bapiraju, Chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, which manages the shrine, temple sources told PTI.

They were in the temple for about half an hour, the sources said.

Purryag, who is now on week-long state visit to India since January 3, flew in here last night for his maiden pilgrimage to the temple from Bihar where he visited Wajidpur, the village from where his forefathers left for the island nation about 15 decades ago.

After his worship, 66-year-old Purryag told reporters that the relationship between India and Mauritius was good and it would continue in future also.

Tight security arrangements were made in Tirupati in connection with the visit of Purryag.
