Sweltering heat today continued in Punjab and Haryana while maximum temperatures hovered around normal levels at various places in both the states.
Union Territory Chandigarh had a high of 39 degrees Celsius, up by a degree above normal level, according to MeT office here today.
Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded maximum temperatures of 38.2 degree C and 38.5 degrees C respectively, while Patiala settled at 39 degrees C, up by a degree than normal.

In neighbouring state of Haryana, Ambala and Bhiwani, mercury settled at 39 degrees C and 39.2 degrees C.
Among other places, Karnal and Narnaul recorded maximum at 39 degrees C each, while Hisar settled at 37.7 degrees C, down by two notches below normal.
MeT department, in a forecast, said rain or thundershowers may occur at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
