Mercury continued to settle above normal limits in isolated areas of Punjab and Haryana with the high humidity levels compunding the problems of the people in the region.
The maximum temperatures hovered between one to four degrees Celsius above normal in most parts of Punjab and Haryana, the Met office said here.
Only Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, was drenched by eight mm of rainfall.
In Punjab, Amritsar was the hottest place with a high of 37 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.
While Bhiwani in Haryana faced a high of 36.4 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature at Hisar was 36 degrees Celsius.
Among other places, Chandigarh settled at a high of 35.5 deg C, two notches above normal level followed by 35.3 deg C each at Ludhiana and Patiala, two notches each above normal.
Besides, the humidity levels in the region were between 75 to 90 per cent.
Besides this, frequent tripping of power supply, especially in Chandigarh compounded problems of the people.
The Met forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Department of Agri Meteorology, Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University at Hisar has predicted variable weather, partly clouds and scattered rain drops at isolated places in the state from August 28 to September 2.
The maximum temperature may vary between 31.9 degree to 36.8 degree Celsius and minimum may be between 25 to 27.1 degree Celsius, a university spokesman said.
