BSP President Mayawati today dismissed the Uttar Pradesh budget as merely a "paper exercise" and targeted Samajwadi Party government, saying a regime occupied with one "family, and uncles and nephews" cannot be expected to serve the people.

She said, in a statement issued here, the measures announced by Akhilesh Yadav government in the budget tabled yesterday are unlikely to be of any help to people as corruption ruled the state while budget money was often left unspent.

"This budget is less about people's welfare and more about paper word. You cannot expect a government occupied with the interest of one family and some uncles and nephews to work for the interests of 20 crore people," she said.

The BSP supremo said SP regime might have made announcements to woo farmers and villagers but they cannot benefit if their lands are "snatched away" forcibly.
