BSP chief Mayawati's younger brother Subhash Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police after he allegedly assaulted his nephew and his wife and also slapped an on-duty constable.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning when Kumar, a resident of Naraina in southwest Delhi, reached Inderpuri where his nephew lived with his wife and got into a quarrel with them, police said.

"Around 9:30 AM Kumar, armed with a hockey stick, allegedly reached the couple's residence and repeatedly knocked on their door.

"When the door was not opened, he broke it open and then thrashed both his nephew and his wife," said a police official quoting the woman's complaint.

According to police, the incident took place over a property dispute between them.

The couple made a call to the Police Control Room (PCR) following which a team rushed to the spot, they said.

When the police team confronted him, Kumar allegedly slapped constable Jitender Singh twice following which he was apprehended by other policemen under several charges of the Indian Penal Code.

"An FIR under sections 452 (house trespass), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 criminal intimidation, 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of IPC have been registered against Kumar at Inderpuri police station and he was arrested," police said.

However, they said, Kumar was released on a bail the next day.

Further investigation in the case is underway, police said.
