MBA graduate arrested for smuggling of illicit liquor: Police

A management and engineering graduate has been arrested from Dwarka area of the city for allegedly smuggling illicit liquor, the police said today.

Mohit Goswami (31) was arrested from Dabri in Dwarka yesterday while smuggling 23 cartons of illicit liquor in his car, DCP (Dwarka) Sibesh Singh said.

The accused, a native of Amritsar, was staying in Gurgaon. After his engineering course, he completed MBA from a college in Gurgaon and also worked with a Japanese restaurant chain in Singapore for nine months, he said.

On returning to India, he met an old friend and started smuggling illicit liquor to earn quick money, the officer said, adding, "The accused was jobless for three months and was in dire need of Rs 80,000 for paying the school fee of his daughter."

The police said the accused belonged to a well off family which runs a business in Amritsar.
