Authorities in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir Sunday suspended the license of a gas agency, stopped installation of a hand-pump and placed a government official under suspension for violating model code of conduct (MCC).

The four-phased Urban Local Body (ULB) polls are scheduled to take place in four phases in the state next month.

District Magistrate, Rajouri, Mohammad Aijaz Asad who is also district election officer, took action after receiving an inquiry report following complaints of MCC violation by different persons, an official spokesman said.

He said three cases of MCC violation were recently brought to the notice of Asad including distribution of LPG gas connections by a gas-agency misusing a government scheme, installation of hand-pump in Sunderbani by workers of a political party and one government employee working in postal department, Kalakote who was seen in a political party meeting.

The DEO ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the issue and based upon the findings of report, it was confirmed that the offence tantamount to violation of MCC stipulated by the state election authority, the spokesman said.

He said the DEO, acting promptly, ordered suspension of the license of the gas agency and immediately stopped the installation of the hand-pump.

Whereas, the postal department employee has been suspended and attached with the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kalakote, the spokesman said.

Assuring utmost impartiality and neutrality in dealing with cases of violations of MCC, Asad said action would be initiated against all such violations irrespective of the political party or group affiliations.
