"On the way to Chennai for my first stint at the MRF Pace Foundation. Looking forward to it but missing @saramcgrath11 & the kids already," McGrath tweeted today.
"Haven't arrived in Chennai yet. Sitting in Singapore airport waiting for my flight," he wrote on his twitter handle.
The Aussie will succeed compatriot Dennis Lillee, who had been involved with the academy for the last 25 years since its inception in 1987.
McGrath, who retired at the end of the 2007 World Cup that Australia won, was holidaying in Hawaii with his wife and kids.

Nick-named Pigeon, McGrath is fourth in the all-time list of Test wicket-takers after spinners Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble.
McGrath, 42, has himself trained at the MRF Foundation. The New South Welshman was among the first batch of trainees sent by the Australian Cricket Academy to tutor under Lillee in 1992, a year before he made his international debut.
