MDMK meet to discuss criticism by BJP leaders against party

Facing flak from a section of BJP including senior leader Subramanian Swamy for slamming the Narendra Modi government, NDA partner MDMK today said it would meet here tomorrow to discuss the matter.

MDMK Parliamentary Board and High Level Committee will meet here separately to discuss the issue besides other matters, party sources said.

The decision making bodies will debate the issue even as there has been a hue and cry among party workers over the outburst from Swamy and another leader, H Raja, who have voiced opposition to MDMK founder Vaiko's strident criticism of their party-led coalition on many issues including the Sri Lankan Tamils and fishermen issues.

Both had asked Vaiko to lead his party out of NDA, and their remarks had sparked off widespread criticism from another NDA ally PMK and DMK chief M Karunanidhi.

Vaiko's MDMK was one of the early entrants to the BJP-led NDA coalition in the state for this year's Lok Sabha polls, the others being DMDK, PMK and some local outfits.

However, the party could not return a single MP, with Vaiko himself losing the Virudhunagar seat to AIADMK.

The party will also discuss Sri Lankan Tamils issue and other matters pertaining to the state in the meetings, sources added.
