Mechanical problem and a suicide at two different stations affected Metro Rail services here this evening for nearly an hour.
While abnormal sounds heard by the driver of a Dumdum-bound A/C rake at Chandni Chowk station in central Kolkata halted the services for 10 minutes, suicide by an youth at Esplanade, the next station, affected normal services for 48 minutes, Metro Railway CPRO R N Mahapatra said.
"There was a 10-minute detention of a Dumdum-bound train from 5.40 PM at Chandni Chowk due to abnormal sound felt by the driver," Mahapatra said.

"The driver immediately informed the control, which in turn updated the emergency services like the fire brigade, as precautionary measure," Mahapatra said.
Though some passengers claimed that smoke was seen billowing over a coach, the Metro Railway CPRO denied it.
After checking, clearance was given and the train left for Dumdum at 5.50 PM, he said.
Fire Brigade sources said that one fire tender was sent to Chandni Chowk station.
At 6.26 PM, a 30-year old unidentified youth jumped in front of a Kabi Subhash-bound train at Esplanade, Mahapatra said.
Normal services could resume at 7.14 PM. Truncated services were run during this period, he said.
