MECON can provide sols to douse fire in Jharia coal fields

State-run MECON today said it can provide solutions to douse fire and extract coking coal from the coal fields in Jharia (Jharkhand).

The firm provides technical consultancy for project implementation from concept to commissioning for industrial development and upgradation ventures, development of infrastructure and other service sectors.

Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh today chaired a review meeting of MECON, a public sector undertaking (PSU) under his ministry, an official statement said.

MECON CMD A K Tyagi pointed out that there are large untouched reserve of coking coal in Jharia Coal fields which needs to be extracted by dousing of the prevailing fire, the statement quoting Tyagi said.
 

MECON can provide solutions for extraction of the cocking coal from Jharia fields with their Polish collaborator the Central Mining Institute of Poland for which Steel Ministry in collaboration with the Coal Ministry need to take initiative, it added.

Singh advised MECON to put focus on wider consumption of steel particularly in bridges which have had long lives and promote extensive use of steel in infrastructure projects.

Singh appreciated MECON's growth and diversification into energy, oil & gas and infrastructure, its contribution to the second launch pad of ISRO commissioned on turnkey basis.

The Minister said the PSU was well placed to look into means of replacement of imported raw materials and provide import substitution for plant and equipment. The possibility of involvement with IITs and other such institutions can be looked into by MECON.

"While reviewing MECON's international contribution, the Minister advised MECON to explore possibility of utilisation of Chabahar port of Iran for the steel industry," the statement said.
