The health condition of activist Medha Patkar, who is on an indefinite fast since July 27 demanding "proper" rehabilitation for the Sardar Sarovar Dam oustees, has "deteriorated", her aides claimed even as she refused to get examined by doctors.

"She vomited this morning," said Abbad Kamal, an activist, from Chikhalda village in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, where the Narmada Bachao Andolan activist and 11 others are on fast.

"The health condition of four more people too has deteriorated," he added.

Himshi Singh, another activist, said two doctors today visited Patkar, but she refused to get checked up by them.

"We are requesting her to get herself examined," said Dhar Collector Shriman Shukla. The chief medical and health officer of the district (CM&HO) and his team were trying to persuade her but in vain, he added.

"We are keeping a close watch on her health," the Collector told PTI over phone.

Hundreds of affected people today took out a huge protest march and torched an effigy of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Barwani district of Mahdya Pradesh.

Thousands of families in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani, Dhar, Alirajpur and Khargone districts will have to vacate their houses following the Centre's nod for closing the gates of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada in neighbouring Gujarat.

Closing of gates -- which will take place in a phased manner -- will lead to a rise in water-level, leading to submergence of villages in the catchment area in Madhya Pradesh.

The government had said two days ago that over 7,000 families have stayed put in the catchment area in MP, and it was trying to persuade them to leave.
