Media can play a vital role in bringing about lasting peace, maintaining political stability and strengthening democratic institutions in Nepal, a senior minister said today.
"Nepal is at present in the cross roads of major political and social transformation and at this moment media can play vital role in bringing about lasting peace, maintaining political stability and strengthening democratic institutions," said Information and Communication Minister Madhav Poudyal.
Media's role is very important in conducting the Constituent Assembly elections scheduled for November 19, he said while addressing the inaugural session of a three day regional seminar on 'Enhancing the role of community radio and promoting positive social change' here.
Around 100 representatives from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are taking part in the regional conference being organised at the joint initiatives of SAARC Information Centre and World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC - Asia Pacific).
