Alleging police brutality against media persons in the state, BJP today asked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to take action against erring policemen, as it threatened a legal recourse on the issue.
Releasing video clips and CCTV footages purportedly showing brutality against media persons in Agra, Varanasi, Etah, Kanpur and Shahjahanpur districts of the state, BJP demanded that the Chief Minister checked attack on the "fourth pillar of democracy".
"Media persons are pointed out and assaulted. Police cannot give the excuse that it was done unknowingly. Journalists carrying cameras are singled out and assaulted," BJP state president Laxmi Kant Bajpai said.
