Assam Environment and Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain today slammed local media and accused them of telling lie in Hitler's style over reporting of alleged settlement of Bangladeshi migrants in Kaziranga National Park.

"Your TV channels are saying that some people are living in Kaziranga. They showed some houses and some faces. They said those people have recently come and settled there. They have repeatedly been showing the same news," Hussain said at a press conference here.

"Hitler's propaganda minster was Joseph Goebbels. He had said that you tell a lie and then continuously repeat it till people believe that it is a truth," he added.

Asked specifically if there is any hidden agenda by a certain section of people or media in telling a lie, Hussain said: "I said what I have to say. Let the common people of Assam decide. I only request the media to give news, not views."

Over the last few months, especially during the Lok Sabha election campaign, opposition parties along with a section of the media alleged that Hussain facilitated settlement of illegal migrants from Bangladesh at Kaziranga National Park.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had alleged the same during his election rallies in Assam and had warned that all Bangladeshis would have to leave the state once BJP came to power at the Centre.

Hussain said: "As per an order by the Kaliabor Sub- Divisional Officer (C), 93 landless families were settled in two mouzas of Kaziranga in 1996... Right now, 85 families are still there.
