A 28-year-old woman medical student allegedly committed suicide by injecting some "poison" at her house here, police said today.

The woman, identified as, A Kimira, was pursuing post-graduation, and took the substance with a syringe late Monday night. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead, police said.

"It seems she was under depression since the death of her father in February this year. However, the exact reason behind her taking the extreme step is not yet known," Chaitanyapuri Police Station Inspector G Naveen Kumar said, based on information provided by her family members.

"Her marriage was also fixed recently," the Inspector said, adding, they have sent the syringe to Forensic Security Laboratory (FSL) here to determine what "poison" it contained.

A case has been booked and probe is on, police added.
