"We have asked the junior doctors to immediately join duty so that their demand for security may be considered by the government," minister of state for health Chandrima Bhattacharya told PTI.

She said a section of medicos had gone on a ceasework, which entered the second day today, but that had not seriously affected normal hospital services.

The minister said senior doctors had been asked to attend to ailing patients till the situation returned to normal.

Meanwhile, patients had a trying time in getting medical attention with the junior doctors continuing their ceasework alleging physical assault by relatives of a patient who died in the hospital yesterday.

Hospital authorities said that emergency ward was being run by senior doctors.
