Medium sugar moves up on increased offtake

Medium sugar prices moved up at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to increased offtake from retail consumers coupled with fresh upcountry demand.

Meanwhile, small sugar variety closed stable owing to lack of buying amid adequate stock position.

Medium sugar (M-30) gained by Rs 9 per quintal to Rs 2,850/2,972 from last weekend closing level of Rs 2,841/2,972.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,850/2,972 (Rs 2,841/2,972).

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,700/2,812 (Rs 2,700/2,812).
