Meena Kandasamy chosen for Mayilamma award

: Tamil poetess and social activist Meena Kandasamy has been chosen for the third Mayilamma award in memory of the later Indian social activist, hailing from Plachimada in Palakkad district.

The award comprising a cash prize of Rs 15,555, a plaque and a citation would be bestowed on the poetess at a function in the second week of March at Palakkad, Ramadas Kadirur, Chairman of Mayilamma Foundation told reporters here today.

Previous winners of the award were human rights activist Iom Shamila Chanu and Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi, he said.

A cultural centre and a women's empowerment centre would be constructed at Plachimada in memory of Mayilamma, he said.
