Former Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court T Meena Kumari, who was recently appointed as Chairperson of the State Human Rights Commission, assumed charge here today.
Meena Kumari was the first Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court and also the first woman to be appointed as State Human Rights Commission Chairperson, an official release said.
On November 16, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah appointed her as Chairperson of the Commission.

The post was vacant since 2011 and the Supreme Court had on September 16 asked the state government to take appropriate steps to expeditiously fill it up.
The court, acting on a PIL, had expressed concern over the Commission remaining headless for the last three years and asked the state to constitute a search committee to find a suitable person for the post at an early date.
The release said that prior to taking up the post of Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Meena Kumari served as Judge of the Andhra Pradesh and Patna High Courts.
In her over 20 year stint, Meena Kumari practiced in civil, criminal, constitutional, taxation in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the release said.
