: BJP nominee Meenakshi Shantigodu was elected president of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat and Kasturi Panja was chosen vice president in the elections held today.
The post of the president has been reserved for SC/ST community and the vice president's post was from general category.
Shantigodu secured 21 votes as against Congress candidate Shekar Kukkedi who got 15 votes. Kasturi Panja of BJP defeated Anitha Hemanath Shetty from Congress by the same margin of votes.
The BJP had won 21 and the Congress 15 seats in the 36-member Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat in the elections held in February this year.
