Meet with pharma companies, hydel projects on new rules in

The Pollution Control Board-Sikkim in coordination with the Forest Environment & Wildlife Management Department discussed waste management with

Pharmaceutical companies and Hydro Electric Power Projects as part of the initiative to sensitise them on implementation of the new rules on Waste Management & Water Cess.

The meeting took place on June 8 and 9.

Various issues pertaining to waste management and problems faced by the units were discussed at length and the units have agreed to comply with the new Rules, official sources said today.

Altogether 40 Pharmaceutical Units attended the interactive meeting and 15 Hydro Electric Power Projects.

Issues like public complaints, compliance to standards, imparting training to unskilled employees, Environmental Clearance, muck disposal, implementation of environmental plan, performance Audit, Solid Waste Management, Ban of use of Styrofoam and varied subjects pertaining to prevention, control and abatement of pollution also came up.
 

The newly amended Rules were Bio-medical Waste management Rules 2016, Construction & Demolition Waste Management Rules 2016, E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016, Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, Hazardous & other waste (Management & Transboundary Movement) Rules 2016.
