Meeting seeks Rs.25 as MSP for tea leaves

A meeting of some parties, barring ruling AIADMK, today demanded fixing a minimum support price of Rs 25 for tea leaves, which is being sold at Rs five per kg.

The meeting appealed to the MLAs and MPs, representing tea growing regions, to exert pressure on the Centre on the need for fixing a minimum price for tea leaves, J P Subramanian, Chairman of the organising committee, told reporters here.

Subramaniam claimed that growers were affected due to the low price and the Centre has to take urgent remedial measures to save the industry from extinction.

The meeting also urged Tamil Nadu government to provide adequate compensation to those who died during post-delivery period at a Hospital here, he said.
 

Representives of Congress, CPI, CPI-M, BJP, JD (S) and JDU) attended the meeting.
