A meeting would be convened some time in July in Delhi to discuss problems faced by the Textile Industry and find a solution, Union Minister of state for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping,Pon Radhakrishnan today said.

Stating that he was hurt to see other states growing at a faster pace in all sectors, compared to Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan said BJP wanted to make Tamil Nadu the number one state in the country in all spheres.

He was speaking at a session organised by eight Textile associations, led by Texpreneurs Forum, on 'Strategies for making Indian textile industry globally competitive,' here.

Radhakrishnan said he would invite representatives of the associations to Delhi before that meeting to discuss the issues with concerned and relevant ministries.

"The concerned ministers or officials, then would be able to make their positive or negative remarks on the problems raised by the industry," he said.

Without confining to Coimbatore or Tirupur, representatives from various regions in Tamil Nadu should be brought to Delhi,he added.

Earlier, the Forum put forward four most essential interventions required by the industry, including the need to rationalize duty structure and abolition of Hank Yarn Obligation.

On completion of one-year rule of NDA government, Radhakrishnan said there was another four years for the government, which could be extended for another five years, during which it wanted to create more employment opportunities.

BJP General Secretary Muralidhar Rao also assured the gathering that he would take up the issues with relevant ministries to solve the problems.

"Reviving the economy is going to be the litmus test for the government and we are committed to it," Rao said.
