A Rs 107-crore footwear park will come up near here under the mega leather cluster scheme of the Union government, Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) said today.

The project, to be set up by KINFRA, will be located at a 300-acre site in Ramanattukkara, a release said.

As part of the initiative, the corporation today held a business-to-business meeting with the stakeholders here.

It has proposed to develop a footwear institute housing training and design and innovation centres adjacent to the park, the release added.

Besides facilities for manufacturing footwear and raw materials, the park will have four allied industrial units for leather products.

The industrial park is expected to provide direct employment to some 2,000 people and will benefit 3,500 others indirectly.

The country is currently ranked second in the world in the footwear manufacturing sector, and sensing the vast potential of the market, several foreign companies had started footwear units, it said.
