The Meghalaya government today decided to adopt a resolution for ratifying the Constitution (122nd Amendment) (GST) Bill, 2014 in the upcoming Assembly session to begin from September 9.

Addressing reporters after a cabinet meeting held here, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said "We have decided to introduce the resolution for consideration of the House."

He said the country was in transition to a new form of value added tax.

Replying to a query on its implication for a small state like Meghalaya, the CM said the stand of the state government was it does not foresee any drop in revenue realisation and in such event, the state would be compensated.

"This was taken up at the level of consultation and an acceptable format will come up," he said.

The Rajya Sabha had recently passed the Constitution (122nd Amendment) (GST) Bill, 2014 to introduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
